Dr. Debra Junkins

Dr. Debra Junkins is the Owner of Pet Vet and the lead Veterinarian. She attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison as an undergraduate. In 1989 she graduated second in her class, from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. After graduation, Dr Deb did a 1-year internship at the Illinois Equine Hospital and Clinic in Naperville, IL. After the internship, she was employed by Hartland Veterinary Clinic, in Woodstock, IL, as an associate veterinarian from 1990 to 1998.  In January of 1999 she started Pet Vet Animal Clinic and Mobile Practice Ltd. Dr. Deb spent her summers as a kid on her grandparent’s farm in Iowa. Dr Deb says, “That was an irreplaceable experience that made me realize I wanted to work with animals when I grew up”. The experiences have been many over the years; “I have shed tears in awe, inspired amazement and in complete frustration. I have laughed at pets with their owners and at myself at times. Playful, inquisitive, innocent new puppies and kittens make me smile, as do brave, loyal, opinionated old dogs and cats. Veterinary medicine has led me to be too hot, too cold, too wet, and too exhausted physically and mentally.  It has also allowed me to work in beautiful weather and locations outdoors and in the comfort of client’s homes. Looking back, I might change an occasional occurrence, but I wouldn’t change the overall cumulation of my experiences.” Dr. Deb says, “I get the most satisfaction out of being a vet when I can take a sick or injured animal and ‘fix’ them.  When I have to work hard at a diagnosis and then determine the correct treatment and see the animal improve and finally be back to normal-there’s no other feeling like that and it takes the effort of the patient and the willingness of the owner to make it all happen.”  Dr. Deb and her mom Joann have a town home in Huntley.  They have two kitties; Dr Deb’s is Diesel (aka: Big Cat or Roly Poly), and her Mom’s is Cutie (aka: Little Cat or Tex).  Dr. Deb’s brother, his wife and their two kids live in Denver with 1 kitty.  Dr. Deb says, “I’m a work in progress now that my business isn’t taking up all my time.  I started bowling again in 2006.  I love to travel and have been many places and plan on going to many more around the world.  I scuba dive and want to go dive with a Manta Ray.  I enjoy going to Chicago to see plays, especially musicals.  During the summer I enjoy grilling. During the winter I enjoy curling up with a book in front of a real wood fireplace.  Any season is good for watching sports on TV.  Dr. Deb says, “I really enjoy working with animals and the people they come with.  Every day all of us at Pet Vet Animal Clinic and Mobile Practice are doing our best to keep pets healthy and their people informed.  Veterinary Medicine is a field that is exploding on a daily basis with new methods to help pets live longer and healthier lives. I’m excited about what the future will bring.”

Dr. Jon Jacobson Dr. Jon Jacobson is a graduate of the University Of Wisconsin School Of Veterinary Medicine.  Prior to joining Pet Vet he worked in a mixed dairy/small animal practice and in a small animal/exotic practice.  Most recently he has been practicing emergency medicine in the northwest suburbs.  Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Jacobson worked for a number of years in human medicine as a clinical microbiologist.  He still enjoys working in the lab, but his favorite part of veterinary medicine is the variety.  "Every case is different, every client is different, and that is what makes every day exciting."  Dr. Jacobson adopted the first animal he every performed surgery on, his cat Monstar, who is still healthy and constantly begging for food.  He also has a dog named Ruby who belonged to a former client.  When that client became his wife, he got Ruby in the bargain.  Dr. Jacobson spends a lot of his spare time napping on the couch with his two young sons.  His main hobby is playing ice hockey once a week with a group of similarly un-athletic middle-aged men.

Dr. Linda Olson

Dr. Linda Olson has joined the staff at Pet Vet as of March 2, 2009. She had been a relief doctor for Pet Vet since October 2007. Dr. Olson graduated from the University of Illinois in 1988.  She has also practiced in Long Grove, Arlington Heights, Addison, and Glendale Heights.  Dr Olson is in the process of completing her certification in Veterinary Acupuncture.  She has also started her studies in Herbology and attends the Chi Institute in Reddick, Florida working toward a Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Animals were always a part of Dr. Olson’s life; from taking care of the neighbor’s pets in grade school to working other people’s horses in high school to working in hospitals (both human and animal) during her college years.  She says, “The best aspect of the job is when you help an animal heal from a nasty wound or illness and you get to see them eating, playing and working again.” Dr. Olson has been living in the area for 15 years. She enjoys riding and driving horses, and reading classics; especially adventure stories and Sci-Fi. She also enjoys gardening, even though she says she’s not good at it. She lives with her daughter who rides horses and plays volleyball and basketball. Their family includes 3 cats, 1 Golden Retriever and 1 Horse (an America Saddlebred gelding).   Dr. Olson says, “I strive to provide the best care possible for my patients.”

Dr. Ruthi Houseright Dr. Ruthi Houseright joined the Pet Vet staff in June, 2010.  She is a graduate of the college of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas Sate University.  Following graduation, Dr. Houseright completed a 1-year internship at Kendall Road Equine Hospital in Elgin, IL.  Although horses and small ruminants remain her favorite species, Dr. Houseright likes the variety that comes with seeing many different kinds of animals and their owners on a daily basis.  Dr. Houseright currently shares her home with her dog, Diesel, and Peewee, a cat with attitude.  In her spare time, she enjoys riding her horse, Charlie, rollerblading, and baking unhealthy desserts.
